Rare original GUB Glashütte Cal. 64 chronograph from the 1950s, produced in the former East Germany. This authentic civilian vintage wristwatch has been professionally serviced and is currently in working order. The chronograph starts, stops, and resets correctly.

This is an original GUB Glashütte two-register chronograph produced in Glashütte, Saxony, during the early period of watchmaking in the German Democratic Republic.

It is not a military-issued watch, conversion, marriage watch, or modern reproduction.

Historical Background

After the Second World War and the division of Germany, the historic watchmaking town of Glashütte became part of East Germany.

In 1951, the main watch manufacturers operating in Glashütte were consolidated into the state-owned VEB Glashütter Uhrenbetriebe, commonly known as GUB.

The GUB Caliber 64 belongs to the postwar development of Glashütte chronograph production and reflects the technical heritage of earlier UROFA chronograph movements.

These early GUB chronographs are considerably less common than later GUB time-only and automatic watches and are sought after by collectors of German chronographs, East German horology, and historic Glashütte watchmaking.

Movement

The watch is powered by its original GUB Caliber 64 mechanical hand-wound chronograph movement.
The movement has been professionally serviced, including disassembly, cleaning, lubrication, reassembly, and regulation.
It winds and runs correctly.
The chronograph starts, stops, and resets correctly.
Movement serial number: 18744

Dial

The original dial features:
- Two recessed chronograph subdials
- Small running seconds
- 30-minute chronograph register
- Central chronograph seconds hand
- Applied gold-tone Arabic numerals and hour markers
- Multicolored tachymeter and telemeter scales
- Original GUB Glashütte signature
- “Stoßgesichert” marking indicating shock protection

The dial has not been refinished.

It shows visible natural patina, spotting, discoloration, and surface aging consistent with an authentic watch from this period.

These age-related characteristics form an important part of the watch’s originality and historical character.

Case
The original round case is gold-plated and marked:
PLAQUE 20 MICRON
The watch has a screw-down stainless-steel case back marked:
Edelstahlboden – Wassergeschützt
The case shows scratches, small marks, and areas of plating wear consistent with age and normal use.
The watch is sold as not water-resistant and should be protected from water and moisture.

Approximate Dimensions

- Diameter including crown: 39 mm
- Diameter excluding crown: 36 mm
- Lug-to-lug length: 42 mm
- Case thickness: 12 mm
- Lug width: 18 mm
- Crystal diameter: 31 mm

Strap

The watch is fitted with a black leather two-piece strap and a gold-tone buckle.
The strap is a later replacement and is included with the watch.

Condition

This watch is offered in authentic pre-owned vintage condition.
The dial, hands, case, and movement are original to the watch.
Visible patina, discoloration, scratches, plating wear, and other age-related marks are present.
The watch has been professionally serviced and is currently in working order.
The chronograph starts, stops, and resets properly.

As with any vintage mechanical watch, modern quartz-level accuracy, modern shock resistance, and modern water resistance should not be expected.

No original box or papers are included.

Please examine all photographs and the video carefully. They form an important part of the description and show the actual condition of the watch being offered.

This is an uncommon opportunity to acquire an original early GUB Glashütte Cal. 64 chronograph representing an important period in postwar German and East German watchmaking history.
