If you have been collecting watches for a while I think you’re going to appreciate the following timepiece. One could argue that the word “RARE” gets tossed around a bit too easily but I think this is one case where the moniker is well deserved. I am pleased to offer for sale this ca 1890’s timepiece 100% ORIGINAL GOLD POCKET WATCH.
It is a registered design model that features an ORIGINAL porcelain sunken dial, GOLD full hunter CASE and signed HIGHEST QUALITY original movement with the STRAIGHT LINE DAMASKEENING, THREE RAISED & SCREWED in GOLD JEWEL SETTINGS, IMPRESSIVE LARGE BI-METALLIC BALANCE and BLUE BREGUET BALANCE SPRING.
HENRI LEVY –small watches, watch parts, cases, dials, watch movements from Biel, Switzerland, was registered April 11, 1893.
This timepiece features an ORIGINAL handsome sunken white PORCELAIN enamel dial is in excellent to mint condition, but with several small hairlines. It features a 60 minute checkered outer track border with black enamel five minute Arabic numerals, elegant black enamel painted Roman numerals, original gold Louis XVI filigree hands and a sunken sub-seconds dial with 60 second outer chapter and “sweep” gold seconds hand. Signed HENRY in black enamel lettering below the XII.
It is a registered design FULL HUNTER model that features a SIX piece GOLD case that provides for a useful dust cover over the movement and front lid. The case was made especially for H.LEVY. Turning the watch over I see that the engraved back lid is in excellent condition. The engraved front lid is in excellent condition.
The winding crown is in very good shape and operates properly. The inside of the front case lid is stamped CROWN in Circle and case referent number #59.335. There are also 56 – 14K and 0.585 Gold hallmarks. This stamp, case reference number and Gold hallmarks repeat inside on the back out & inner case lids.
Lifting this lid reveals an inner dust cover lid, also gold. This was used to protect the mechanism from dust and debris and to provide an extra layer of protection from shock or moisture. What’s nice about this particular dust cover is how it’s decorated, complete with engraved Four medals with exquisite miniature detailing in the center and is signed MEDAILLE D’OR – ANCRE LIGNE DROITE SPIRAL BREGUET – LEVEES VISIBLES – 20 RUBIES – NICKEL 3CHATONS – THOUNE 1899 – EXPOSITION COLLECTIVE – #59.335.
The ACRYLIC CRYSTALS are in excellent condition.
This timepiece is ORIGINAL GOLD POCKET WATCH.
Peeking inside I find a spotless, manual wind nickel finished lever escapement movement with the STRAIGHT LINE DAMASKEENING, THREE RAISED & SCREWED in GOLD JEWEL SETTINGS, IMPRESSIVE LARGE BI-METALLIC BALANCE and BLUE BREGUET BALANCE SPRING.
To enhance the power coming through the train, the center wheel is provided with a chaton jewel, which is mounted in rosé gold and is screwed threefold. Only jeweled holes minimize reliably the friction due to enormous driving power of the mainspring and consequently the going barrel. The screwed chaton allows the precise adjustment of the wheel and the quick change of the bearing jewel if necessary. The further wheel arbors are protected by jewels.
The movement is stamped with the TEMPLE.
This beautiful GOLD POCKET WATCH has the Original movement in an excellent status which was very well saved, considering age of this watch.
